Axia Electric, a Shimmick Company, played a key role in expanding the nation’s largest water purification system for indirect potable reuse. As part of the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) Expansion Project, our team delivered critical electrical systems that power the facility’s advanced treatment processes, supporting reliable and long-term operation.
Axia Electric’s scope included installation and integration of high-voltage and low-voltage systems across new process areas such as microfiltration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet disinfection. The work encompassed power distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), conduit and cabling, as well as extensive instrumentation and control wiring. Our crews coordinated closely with other trades to ensure safe and efficient tie-ins while maintaining uninterrupted plant operations.
This project increased treatment capacity from 100 to 130 million gallons per day, strengthened Orange County’s drought resilience, and enhanced electrical reliability for a mission-critical public utility. Axia Electric delivered power distribution systems, MCCs, conduit, and control system wiring to support over 20 structures, executing complex tie-ins without disrupting ongoing operations.
