James Burton, PE, Area Manager at Axia Electric, brings more than 22 years of experience in heavy civil construction with a strong focus on transit infrastructure, seismic retrofit, and complex public works delivery. He leads multidisciplinary teams through all phases of project execution, including safety, scheduling, claims management, and owner coordination.
Mr. Burton joined Axia’s parent company, Shimmick, in 2008 as a field engineer on the $82 million Golden Gate Bridge Seismic Retrofit project, where he progressed into construction and project management roles. He went on to manage major transit and infrastructure efforts such as the $243 million Golden Gate Bridge Suicide Deterrent System and Wind Retrofit and the $78 million SMART CP4 Design-Build project. He also served as project executive on the $100 million Atlas Tree Business Unit integration.
Throughout his career, Mr. Burton has overseen teams of 250+ salaried and craft staff, managing complex scopes and driving successful outcomes on projects exceeding $250 million.
