Axia Electric, a Shimmick Company, completed the installation and commissioning of a comprehensive Central Emergency Lighting System at a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station. The scope included connecting one-third of the existing lighting to dedicated conduit systems and installing Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) with maintenance bypass cabinets, batteries, and corresponding racks, as well as a battery room ventilation system. Axia also provided and installed circuit breakers, DC battery disconnect switches, distribution panels, pull and suction boxes, conduits, cables, wire fittings, and all required accessories. The team performed asbestos abatement where necessary, provided power to all emergency exit signs, conducted lighting calculations for the station, and completed labeling and airings. Additional responsibilities included training BART personnel, conducting electrical studies, and installing remote monitoring systems in the electrical and train control rooms, including conduit, wiring, and fiber optics.
