Axia Electric, a Shimmick Company, played a key role in the electrical and instrumentation systems supporting the Oxidation Retrofit Program at the Robert B. Diemer Water Treatment Plant, a 520 MGD facility owned and operated by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The team delivered a comprehensive electrical scope that included installation of 4.16 kV switchgear, 4.16 kV–480V unit power centers, 480V motor control centers (MCCs), motors, sub-panels, and associated raceways and conductors for power, signal, and communications.
Electrical work also encompassed lighting for new buildings and outdoor areas, duct banks, maintenance holes, emergency generator parallel switchgear, and cathodic protection and grounding systems. Axia integrated new instrumentation and controls—complete with SCADA, field instruments, and control panels—to support the oxygen/ozone treatment system. The project also involved the construction of an electrical switchyard, power substation, and emergency generator building, along with testing, startup, and commissioning of all electrical and control systems.
